I’ve been sitting on this for awhile and it is time to put thoughts down on digits, put words to what I’ve learned, I’ll start with this audio clip from Dave Jones from Podcasting 2.0 #126:
These opinions are of my own and some taken from various podcasts.
YouTube is NOT a podcast, it just isn’t by any definition. Sitting there in front of your camera with your cans on, talking on mics looking at each other doesn’t count either. It makes no sense do to that. You’re not going to be the next Joe Rogan, get over it.
Here is Harris Heller who is a successful streamer/content creator who had both Twitch and YouTube channels and decided to just move over to YouTube full-time. I use this as a reference for those of you on YouTube.
Did you catch that? “Content”, not podcasts that is the definition of YouTube.
If you want to have a show that is content driven and delivers entertainment, and education, gameplay/streaming that is what YouTube is for, it is NOT for podasting.
Here is a Bitcoiner who is a Content Creator and provides so much value by his tutorials on bitcoin wallets, nodes, securing your seed phrases, etc. I’ve personally sent him some real value back for his tutorials helping me out. His YouTube channel is BTC Sessions. You can check out his educational content here:
YouTube is for content, education, entertainment. These type of channels are providing value4value in a different way. These HELP and SHOW how to do things, this is needed when trying to onboard and show how to do these things. There is good content out there, but getting a conversation across that involves free speech isn’t made for YouTube.
Google owns YouTube and you do not have free reign to speak freely; you will start censoring yourself, all content creators censor themselves, you hear it everyday. No matter how much VC money you dump into it, YouTube will take their share and you get the rest. You get pennies or next to nothing by running 3 min ads on your channel and most of the time, viewers click off your video in the first 30 seconds. Its a proven fact, even on Twitch, “you can’t monetize the network.”
When you start adding in Sponsors on your channel, which is a huge annoyance to your audience, if you can keep them, you’re not in control of that monetization. If you say something your sponsors disagree with, “they” simply cut you out, or you get a strike or they demonetize you. When you start censoring yourself to appease your sponsors you become a fiat larp by lying to your audience because you’re not saying what you actually believe in.
HEY bitcoiners still using YouTube, if you are censoring yourself on your channel while screaming about freedom of speech, deplatforming, getting blocked, or any of the typical centralized media controlled censorship that big tech companies do to you, and you still complain about it, then kindly SHUT THE FUCK UP AND STOP USING YOUTUBE AND DO SOMETHING! OR NO ONE TAKES YOU SERIOUSLY ANYMORE
Sovereignty is the polar opposite of centralized media:
There are other video platforms such as BitcoinTV and NoAgendaTube that do not censor or strike you. If video content is your thing, start creating good content on those platforms mentioned, that you want people to watch, they will find your content, just tell them where it is. If they like it, they will follow and subscribe.
Again, you’re not going to be the next Joe Rogan.
Most of all, there is NO VALUE4VALUE ON YOUTUBE. Yes, you can pay fiat for a super chat. wow, back to fiat lapring again. useless.
Let’s talk about podcasting and specifically podcasting 2.0 and the V4V model. A little history from Podchaser.com
“RSS feeds came onto the scene in 1999. They allow users to subscribe to updates to various websites, but did not create podcasts until 2003.
Adam Curry and Kevin Marks get credit as the inventors of the podcast, because they were the first people to connect RSS feeds to iTunes. That same year, the first podcast, IT Conversations by Doug Kaye came out.”
Just like Adam said, podcasting has been around a long time and its going to be around a lot longer. They’ve evolved that show into a worldwide podcast over the years, all from just audio.
No Agenda, with John C Dvorak and Adam Curry, broadcast live twice a week (Thursdays and Sundays) and has for the past 15 years through their audio only decentralized platforms. Never has there been a video, and there never will be. Check out their production here:
The podcasting ecosystem was built on open standard to make it easy for anyone to share their podcast with the world without intervention. Throughout the years, apps and services from big tech corporations have added podcasts to their portfolio, but use those podcasts to further increase their hold on the podcasting ecosystem. This is especially dangerous in a time when people get deplatformed for not conforming to the mainstream narrative. To combat these trends, Adam and his buddy Dave Jones bootstrapped the Podcasting 2.0 movement by creating PodcastIndex, a searchable directory of podcasts published on the internet, supported by the value for value model.
No censoring, no deplatforming and no edits, most of the time comedy gold, you get hit in the mouth! Its LIVE BABY ALL THE TIME! No Agenda is 5x5 (100%)offer their Time, Talent, and Treasure by their producers. People give what they feel is value for the show and it is not dependent on sponsors, ads, or giant Tech companies telling them what they get. This is John and Adam’s full thoughts all the time. It’s a media deconstruction show. They have jingles, clips, artwork, iso’s, donation section that is LIT that the trolls leave when that happens. Hey, MMO (Millennial Media Offensive) you are following the legends of podcasting. This is the formula and IT IS working.
I’ve posted a V4V Stats chart created by Dave Jones showing how much sats are moving through the lightning network into Podcasting 2.0:
You can find the entire stats page here: V4V Stats
Now we are starting to see music artists getting away from Spotify, who by the way are going bankrupt. They are making no income at all even from subscriptions. Not even the artists that have their music/albums on there can make a living just off of Spotify.
In comes Value4Value with Wavelake. It allows artists to put their music on an open source platform that people can boost sats in support of their music. They get to keep that and the small % goes to the dev’s at Wavelake to keep it going and improving.
The future is podcasting 2.0 with V4V. If you want to be a podcaster, you have so many avenues of creating an incredible revenue stream with endless options. People can create artwork for the show, you can go live on modern podcast apps such as Podverse, Breez, Curiocaster, etc. Listeners can boost live while you’re hosting your show and its quite incredible how far its gone in a short amount of time. When I say boost I’m referring to sats being sent. These are split’s between how they manage sats in their shows. Again this is 100% producer funded for what they feel is giving them value.
Hey! Bitcoin content creators that put their YouTube video RSS feeds into audio content in some of these modern podcast apps. From the ones Ive seen, there is NEVER mention of podcasting 2.0 or the V4V model or how you can listen on these apps while listening while earning sasts through Foutain.fm app. Nobody is going there looking for it either when you do it that way. I can see it by the lack of or no boost messages on
It does nothing nor provides value especially if you do get boost messages, and you never fucking read them. I woud NOT send you shit either if you never answered your producers. For those just starting out, do not put a satoshi cap limit on what you will or wont read. It destroy’s the message of the V4V system.
If you want to be able to speak freely and have conversations that you know that YouTube will block. Get off those platforms and start getting on podcasting 2.0. You’re really missing out on growing a community, producers that provides real value back to you in real time with immediate engagement. Here is an example of getting live feedback on Podverse:
I’ll leave you with that last clip:
Here is a list of where you can listen and use modern podcasting apps.
Until next time friends
