Hello friend
Being in the IT (Information Technology) world, there are many faucets to this industry. Everything from Layer 1 down to the core level of coding languages. Everyone has their own niche or passion for their part in this industry. Many find that having a base layer of understanding while being a “machete” of knowledge in one or two area’s is adequate enough. Which it definitely can be. Just keeping up on your certifications in that particular field will keep you busy as well as all the security, software, hardware, firmware, etc that is constantly changing with it.
Having this passion for one area makes you a machete of knowledge. You are able to cut through the fud (fear, uncertainty, doubt) and know your area of expertise like no other can. Its a very valuable trait to have.
Now let’s flip the script. I fall under the Swiss Army Knife situation. What do I mean by that? Having a base layer with the ability to be thrown in any situation and be knowledgeable and experienced in that skill-set. It doesn’t mean I have been in every single faucet of IT, but enough to be an asset.
Just like the machete, I find my certain passions of that Swiss knife and sharpen my skills in area’s I want to pursue.
So how does all this have anything to do with Bitcoin?
My humble opinion on Bitcoin knowledge is, it impossible to know every single thing about bitcoin. The technology is changing at a rapid pace as in people are finding ways to develop ways to integrate into our daily lives. There are defintely cypher-punks who were the leading machete’s of bitcoin. And thank Satoshi for them being there from the beginning. We will always need those bitcoiners.
Here is where the script get’s flipped. In my experience, being a swiss army knife of bitcoin knowledge at a base layer or layer2 (lightning network) is essential to finding your niche. It helps you find what part of bitcoin you love and want to keep most knowledgeable on and to share with others.
Maybe you love bitcoin computers, maybe you love everything about nodes, mining, software, hardware, decentralized media, merchant support through sats, the rabbit holes are endless. There is no wrong path. You almost by default become the swiss army knife which leads you to a passion for a machete of knowledge and experience in an area of bitcoin.
Find something you are good at, and have a passion for and just keep your skills sharpened at all times.
Until next time friend

I feel the same, after 25+ years in IT.
